Lake City names two street segments to honor fallen fire chiefs

The Lake City Council unanimously approved two resolutions on July 7 to co-designate street segments in honor of late fire officials Chief Randy Burnham and Assistant Chief Dwight Boozer.
City Attorney Martin read resolutions 2026-075 and 2026-076, which direct erection of signs along the designated segments and provide effective dates. Fire Department leadership described the measures as lasting tributes that allow families and firefighters to remember the chiefs’ service each day. "To have that area of road designated ... would definitely honor him and the family, forever," a department speaker said about Chief Randy Burnham.
Devin Burnham, the late chief’s son, told the council the designation would mean a great deal to his family. David Boozer, brother of Assistant Chief Boozer and a former county chief, also spoke and thanked the council for the honor. After an error in the geographic description of one resolution was identified during a break, the council reconsidered and amended the language to correct the referenced intersections and approved the amendment and final votes.
Both resolutions passed on voice and roll-call votes; the council directed staff to arrange for signs and any necessary administrative steps to implement the designations.
