Residents press High Bridge council on tax-assessment process at public comment

Multiple residents used public comment periods at the Oct. 26 Borough of High Bridge council meeting to raise concerns about property assessments and the Tax Assessor.
Nicholas Ferrer, Paul Kovacsofsky and Ed Saliga said they attended a Hunterdon County Tax Board meeting and questioned how assessments are administered and appeals are handled. In a later public comment period Dennis Ferrer, Karyn Gove and Jennifer Kucharski reiterated similar concerns about assessments and asked whether taxes would decrease as the market changes.
Resident Sally Ward also raised questions about the taxable status of borough green acres and asked Councilwoman Ferry for a finance update on the Solitude House. Councilman Silvestri and other councilmembers addressed utility-marking and DPW issues when residents asked about underground utility work.
Mayor Michele Lee said she has reached out to the Tax Assessor and that changes should be reflected next year, and she noted prior contact with the county on the issue. The council did not take formal action on assessment policy at the meeting; residents were advised to continue their appeals through county processes as appropriate.
