High Bridge council approves consent resolutions, hires public works employee and opposes H.R. 3372

The Borough of High Bridge council approved a series of consent resolutions and routine items at its Oct. 12, 2023 meeting at the Fire House.
On a motion by Councilman Michael Schwartz and seconded by Councilman Anthony Nowell the council approved Resolutions 247-2023 through 249-2023, Resolution 251-2023 and Resolution 252-2023 by roll-call vote recorded as six yes votes. Res. 247-2023 appoints Bradley Van Natta as a full-time public works employee. Res. 248-2023 approves a memorandum of understanding for the ARRIVE Together Program; Res. 249-2023 authorizes an escrow refund; Res. 251-2023 expresses support for Assembly Bill A6038 (requiring certain GPS equipment on commercial motor vehicles); and Res. 252-2023 approves the borough's Transit Village application.
Council separately debated Resolution 250-2023, which opposes H.R. 3372, a federal proposal to authorize 91,000-pound trucks in certain state pilot programs. Councilman Greg Silvestri and Mayor Michele Lee spoke in support of the resolution, citing concerns about heavier loads on historic borough bridges; Councilman Anthony Nowell said he was not comfortable with increased truck weights. The motion to approve Resolution 250 passed on recorded votes: Doyle yes; Graham yes; Nowell yes; Schwartz yes; Silvestri no; Ferry yes (5 yes, 1 no).
The council also approved the bill payment list by roll-call vote. The total amount approved on the bill list was $69,030.43. The council adjourned and set its next meeting for Oct. 26, 2023 at 7:30 p.m.
