Walkersville board authorizes street sweeping, approves bills and schedules resolution signing

Following the comprehensive‑plan vote, the Walkersville Burgess and commissioners handled several routine and administrative items.
The board authorized the town to proceed with street sweeping this season, a service estimated by staff at roughly $5,000 depending on the volume collected; the work may yield MS4 stormwater credits. Commissioner Brody moved the authorization and Commissioner Baker seconded; the board approved the motion.
The board also approved accounts payable as presented and heard staff updates. Town manager Sean Williams said the town must adopt a local ordinance to proceed with the Glow fiber broadband effort and that staff is drafting the ordinance for the next board meeting. Assistant public works director Ryan Knott reported that planned meter replacements are paused Sept. 18 through October for billing reasons and that the Discovery water main phase 1 plans are under county review and expected to go to bid in early October.
Finally, Commissioner Gilbert moved and the board approved holding a closed meeting pursuant to General Provisions Article §3‑305(b)(1) to discuss a personnel matter; the board voted in favor of the closed session request.
