The Marion City Council approved a resolution implementing a targeted no‑parking plan for the neighborhood bounded by 10th Street, 31st Street, 10th Avenue and McGowan Boulevard, amending the action to exclude Henderson Drive for a later reevaluation.
City staff (speaker 11) told council they mailed postcards to 1,205 residents and that 221 visited the project landing page (about 18.3%). Staff explained the city’s parking standard for narrower streets and said staff attempted to preserve as much on‑street parking as possible when designating restrictions, accounting for driveways, fire hydrants and mailboxes.
Clerk noted five emailed responses received in advance: two in opposition and three in support. Council then voted to receive and file the Traffic Advisory Committee report and moved to adopt resolution 32945 to implement the committee’s recommendations. Council members raised a resident concern about Henderson Drive where an email writer reported that most on‑street parking is currently on the side proposed to be restricted. The council amended the resolution to exclude Henderson Drive so staff can perform a visual reevaluation of active parking patterns before signage is installed; the amended resolution passed by voice vote.
Speaker 11 said the Traffic Advisory Committee includes police, fire, planning, arborist, engineers and the deputy city manager and that staff can return with a targeted recommendation for Henderson Drive if warranted.
