Madison County School Board members on July 6 decided not to act on the nomination for Central School principal after the chair said she learned of the candidate only by a text message earlier that day and had not received supporting information.
The chair told the board she had received a text from the superintendent naming the principal candidate and called that approach "disrespectful for the community," urging that the nomination be pulled so the board and the public could review materials. Board members expressed frustration that supporting documents, interview scorecards and applicant information had not been circulated in advance.
A motion to remove the nominee from the personnel list and schedule consideration for the regular July 20 meeting was made, seconded and approved; the personnel packet showed the nominee as Kim Jennings, position principal, effective 07/15/2026, salary $81,087. Board members discussed whether to call a special meeting for an earlier vote but ultimately set the matter for July 20 at 04:30 PM with the option of a workshop beforehand. Several board members stressed the need to balance prompt hiring for school leadership with adequate community notice and candidate vetting.
No formal disciplinary action or personnel termination was taken at the meeting. The rest of the personnel recommendations on the agenda (teacher and non-instructional lists, excluding the principal nomination) were approved during the same meeting.
