Big Water planning commission approves agenda and minutes, postpones multiple zoning items to June

The Big Water Planning and Zoning Commission on May 4 voted to approve the meeting agenda and the April minutes, with motions recorded as carried 'all in favor.' The commission also adjourned the meeting by unanimous consent.

During administrator comments, staff reported two new building permit applications under review and described a new single-page checklist-style building permit form intended to streamline submissions. The commission suggested a recurring 'Did You Know' zoning newsletter item with a monthly submission deadline on the 24th.

During public comment, resident Tom Raneau urged clearer code language for how R1 and R2 zones are referenced in the town code. Under old business the commission continued a set of standing items — special events and temporary use permits, off-street parking, definitions, table of uses, the land use ordinance, the Timeshare and Camp Resort Act item, and residential setback requirements — to the June meeting for further review.

Under new business, a metal building design concept was presented by Denise Wood on behalf of applicant Kevin Collins, who was absent; the commission discussed residential aesthetics and raised no objection provided proper construction and compliance with standards. The proposed zoning amendments addressing RV use (codes 15.20 and 15.24) were likewise continued for formal consideration at the June meeting.

Next steps: multiple items were continued to the commission's June meeting; staff will return revised materials and any applicant presentations at that time.
