The Sharpsburg Mayor and Council voted on several fiscal and community items at their April 6 meeting, approving the FY27 Community Deputy Agreement renewal, adopting an amendment to the town's delinquent tax penalty policy, and approving a $500 donation to the Sharpsburg Elementary School Destination Imagination team.
On the FY27 Community Deputy Agreement, the council approved continuation of the program at the same total contract cost of $126,655; Sharpsburg's annual share was reported as $25,331. Councilmember Robbie Waters moved the motion to approve the agreement; Vice Mayor Jacob Martz seconded. The motion carried; the transcript records "motion carried" but does not list individual vote tallies.
Town Administrator Debra Valentine-Smith outlined a proposed change to the town's interest and penalty policy for delinquent municipal real property taxes. The amendment increases the interest penalty to 2% and applies it starting in April of the current tax year and monthly through the second tax year. If taxes remain unpaid by April of the second tax year, the town reserves the right to privately auction the property to collect unpaid taxes. The policy also states that when a parcel has both county and town unpaid taxes, the town will submit the property to the county for collection of the town's portion. Councilmember Robbie Waters moved to adopt the amendment; Councilmember Heather Waters seconded and the motion carried.
The council also approved a $500 donation to the Sharpsburg Elementary School Destination Imagination team to support their tournament in Kansas City, Missouri. The motion to donate was moved by Councilmember Robbie Waters, seconded by Councilmember Heather Waters, and recorded as "motion carried." The meeting minutes do not record a roll-call vote or per-member tallies for these motions.
The council noted upcoming community services and events, including spring brush collection (April 13–17) and a fishing rodeo on April 25; the meeting adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
