Isanti County parks commission approves routine business, hears project updates

The Isanti County Parks & Recreation Commission on March 24 approved routine meeting business and heard staff updates on parks programs, equipment and capital projects.
At the Isanti County Government Center, Chair Susan Blom convened the meeting. Members voted to approve an amended agenda, accept the Feb. 24 minutes and approve the February 2026 budget report. Bob Shogren moved to approve the amended agenda, with Hazel Erikson seconding; the motion carried. Shogren and Erikson also moved and seconded approval of the minutes. Bill Berg moved and Carol Urness seconded approval of the budget report.
The commission approved bills and invoices for March totaling $8,258.78 on a motion by Bob Shogren and second by Kathy Bowlin.
Why it matters: These routine approvals allow park staff to continue ongoing programs, pay vendors and move forward on planned maintenance and projects.
Staff updates included event and operations notes. Parks Director Barry Wendorf reported Winter Trail Day drew seven participants and reminded the public that the annual Spring Bird Hike is scheduled for May 9 at 7:30 a.m. at the Anderson Park picnic shelter. Wendorf also reported that two new lawn mowers were purchased on a three-year lease with the two old units traded in, and that staff have flagged about 2.5 miles of new trail at Nyman Park across three loops.
The meeting also reviewed two items affecting county parks infrastructure and land holdings: the Isanti County Board approved a state agreement to pave Becklin Park’s entrance road and parking area, scheduled for completion in 2027; and the commission authorized the parks director to pursue discussions with a landowner about a potential 120-acre addition to Maple Ridge Park Preserve.
The commission scheduled its next meeting for April 28, 2026, at 5 p.m. at Irving & John Anderson County Park (Dog Park). The meeting adjourned at 6:03 p.m.
