Chair Angela Whitcomb introduced new commissioners and described tours of park facilities, recommendations for landscape standards favoring native species, and work to expand youth sports and special‑population programming. Councilmembers asked about field allocation and about park ranger and park ambassador program recommendations; assistant director Renee Raikstra said staff is reviewing the field allocation policy and will bring it to council when ready.
Mayor Luis MacArthur read a proclamation declaring July 2026 Parks and Recreation Month, praising parks as fundamental to public health, community connection and environmental stewardship. Recreation Supervisor Juliet Morales outlined summer offerings including a youth summer basketball league, free sports camps, the mobile activity center (MAC), community cinema in parks, summer reading with the Oxnard Public Library, and senior programs; bilingual flyers were available at the meeting.
Councilmembers thanked commissioners and staff and invited public participation in park planning and upcoming neighborhood meetings.
