County budget staff told commissioners on July 7 that minor corrections and clarifications are underway and that they will deliver an updated budget packet with tracked changes and highlighted alterations before the close of business on Thursday.
“Nothing will affect levy at this point. It might impact fund balance,” staff member Sarah said, describing the edits as adjustments to math and presentation rather than policy changes. She asked commissioners whether they preferred interim updates or a single comprehensive replacement; the commissioners asked for one consolidated update with highlights of what changed.
Commissioners pressed for written documentation of equipment-reserve uses, noting several reserve lines for the sheriff’s office (IT, vehicle, jail and sheriff equipment reserves) have earmarked amounts. County staff agreed to list what is already earmarked (body alarms, kitchen flooring) and to provide clearer narratives for capital-outlay requests going forward.
A commissioner raised that the levy calculation in a worksheet was using last year’s levy; staff said they would correct the worksheet and circulate the revised materials. Staff also said they are following up with community partners for additional information the commission requested and set a Thursday-noon deadline for partners to submit data if they wanted it included in deliberations.
The update is intended to give the commission and the public a clean copy of the budget and to allow staff to walk through the tracked changes during deliberations. No formal action was taken; commissioners expected to review the updated packet at the next scheduled session.
