Council reappoints Vanessa Echols, names Anna Solomon to Planning Commission; city honors employee of the month

At its July 7 meeting the Auburn City Council reappointed Vanessa Echols and appointed Anna Solomon to full terms on the Planning Commission and recognized Jason Pearson as July employee of the month. Council members praised both appointees' community service.
Mayor called the July 7 meeting to order and opened by presenting two Planning Commission nominations and an employee recognition. The council moved and seconded the nominations for Vanessa Echols (reappointment to a full term) and Anna Solomon (new full term) and approved both by voice vote.
Vanessa Echols was nominated to succeed the partial term she had been serving after filling out the remainder of the late Wendy Birmingham's term. Council members praised Echols’ work and said she ‘‘listens and has a voice’’ and ‘‘has done great’’ in the role. Anna Solomon was nominated to replace Nannette Reese, who finished two full terms; council members cited Solomon’s long familiarity with city planning and her prior work on the downtown design review team as reasons for support.
The council also recognized Jason Pearson of the Inspection Services Division as the city’s July employee of the month. Staff read a memorandum noting Pearson’s role in managing a record volume of permitting, maintaining review times and improving technical capacity in plan review.
The appointments are to be confirmed later in the agenda; the appointees are expected to begin their full terms in August. No votes against these nominations were recorded during the meeting.
