Committee approves Dominion contract for EV chargers at admin building and Buckwalter Recreation Center

The committee approved awarding two contracts to Dominion Energy to install electric vehicle charging stations at two Beaufort County locations: four chargers at the administration building and six chargers at Buckwalter Recreation Center.
Facilities Director Frank Stronchak and grants administrator Lisonbee Kirby told the committee the total contract cost is about $81,396 and that the county expects a near-equal federal rebate of about $80,150 from a U.S. Department of Energy Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant originally awarded in 2023 and placed under a no-cost extension earlier this year. "We can get a rebate of $80,150 on these from a grant from the US Department of Energy," Kirby said.
The committee voted to approve the award and asked staff to return to county council with a resolution setting a fee schedule for charging and operations so revenues can support maintenance. Committee members noted an existing free solar charger had seen steady use and expressed interest in charging policies that balance public access and maintenance costs.
The committee approved sending the contract award forward to county council; the authorization will appear in the council packet for final action if required by procurement rules.
