Mayor Darren E. Bryant briefly addressed citizens at the July 9 meeting about "the current situation with Chief Scott," and a publicist, Sean Howard, told attendees that the mayor had "called in an outside independent source to investigate the situation."
Following that public update, Trustee Tiffany S. Robinson moved and Trustee Michael Collier Sr. seconded a motion to convene into closed session under Section 2(c)(11) (pending or probable litigation) and Section 2(c)(1) (personnel: hiring, firing, compensation, discipline and performance). The board voted in favor and entered closed session. After returning to open session the board reconvened and adjourned at 8:04 p.m.
The minutes record the presence of the closed-session motion and the statutory reasons cited; they do not record proceedings from the closed session, nor do they include any further public statements from Chief Scott or detail any investigative findings.
