Joanne Aquilino, recreation superintendent, reported on Oct. 2 that Mount Kiscopools are closed for the season and staff discovered a crack in a wading-pool backwash line that has resisted caulking. She said a meeting with the pool company was tentatively scheduled to discuss repair options and next steps.
Joanne provided cost estimates: replacing a wading-pool motor is about $7,000 and having matching filters for more efficient operation would total about $10,000 prior to the 2020 pool season. She said one wading pool filter has already been replaced but recommended both be from the same manufacturer for efficiency.
On larger capital work, Joanne said full tennis-court replacement would require a formal bid and estimated the cost at about $220,000. She described several possible causes of previous cracking (preparation, materials, ground shifting) and suggested coordinating drainage work with the East of Hudson watershed efforts to divert water away from the courts. A playground redesign for Leonard Park was estimated at about $1,000,000; commissioners discussed staging the work in phases to reduce up-front cost. Joanne also reported unresolved complex issues (leaky roof, foundation cracks, gym floor) and said the vendor has not been paid in full pending resolution of those issues.
Next steps: a meeting with the pool company is scheduled to review leak and repair plans; tennis-court replacement would go to formal bid if pursued.
