Commission hears multiple pool failures, defective chlorinator and plans for winterization

Mount Kisco Recreation leadership on Sept. 4 briefed commissioners on a string of pool maintenance problems that hampered summer operations and require off‑season repairs.
"The pool has been drained but needs to be drained another 6 inches in the Dive Pool to let it dry out and try and re‑caulk the pool joint," said Joanne Aquilino, superintendent, describing ongoing leak remediation. Aquilino said a recently replaced chlorinator proved defective and had to be replaced again, and that the wading pool required a new filter motor. She said crews hope to have vacuuming complete and to cover pools the week of Sept. 9, with winterization planned by early October.
Aquilino also told the commission that Finance had raised issues about some employees’ recorded hours in relation to New York State labor laws; the discrepancies had been addressed but would continue to be monitored.
Fox Lane Swim Team was using the pool for practice through the week following the meeting. Aquilino described equipment mismatches — for example, a new filter that does not match existing units — as a driver of additional repair costs and follow‑on work.
Commissioners did not set a funding vote at the meeting; Aquilino provided preliminary estimates for pool resurfacing among larger capital priorities discussed separately.
