Recreation commission flags $23,000 park electric bill; hopes to recoup via insurance

The Mount Kisco Recreation Commission on Sept. 4 was told a June park power outage has produced several overdrawn line items, including an outstanding electrical bill of more than $23,000 that the department expects will be covered by insurance.
Joanne Aquilino, superintendent for Mount Kisco Recreation, told commissioners that some bills related to the outage are still being submitted and that the overage "will continue to rise" until the invoices are fully itemized. She said the department is hopeful insurance will reimburse the costs.
Commissioners discussed short‑term budget implications. Aquilino also reported revenue gains across several areas: camp revenue rose to about $187,000 this year from roughly $167,000 in 2018, and snack bar revenue increased by about $20,000. Aquilino attributed pool revenue growth to swim lessons and the swim team and noted the Photo I.D. fee increase (from $2 to $5) as a contributor.
The commission did not adopt any budget amendments at the meeting; Aquilino said she will continue to flag significant variances in future reports and provide more detailed, drop‑down income/expense reports to commissioners for review.
The meeting packet includes a superintendent's report and the commission agreed to monitor insurance recoveries and short‑term budget impacts in the coming months.
