Planning board reviews DEC notices, Hyland Landfill expansion concerns and Alle-Catt Wind meeting notice

Kier Dirlam, Allegany County planning director, reviewed Department of Environmental Conservation notices and other correspondence at the June 17 meeting of the Allegany County Planning Board.
The notices included a Genesee Valley Greenway Rockville Lake washout repair, an application for expansion at the Hyland Landfill in the Town of Angelica, and a completed application for Sun Valley Campsites in the Town of Burns. "Board members discussed the Hyland Landfill expansion, including the need for additional disposal capacity and concerns raised by residents regarding visibility of the expanded facility," the minutes state.
Kier Dirlam also reviewed correspondence related to CASE 17-F-0282, Alle-Catt Wind Energy LLC, noting a minor change request and a meeting scheduled for June 23, 2026. The board discussed items included in the Intergovernmental Review Projects packet and reviewed the Southern Tier West Local Government Conference newsletter and sessions attended, which covered battery storage, short-term rentals, tax issues and nuclear energy.
No formal county action was recorded on the Hyland Landfill expansion in the minutes; the board's role in this meeting was advisory review of DEC notices and intergovernmental referrals. The board set its next regular meeting for July 15, 2026.
