Merrimac 150th Committee approves past minutes, appoints clerk and advances event logistics

The Merrimac 150th Celebration Committee met Sept. 10, 2025, approved minutes from July 16, July 29 and Aug. 13, 2025, and unanimously appointed Michelle Gustison as the committee clerk.
The minutes-recorded motion to approve the prior meeting minutes was moved by Robert L. Gustison II and seconded by Julie Fisher; the minutes list ayes from Gustison, Fisher, Fisher, Bourque, Gustison, Ramsden and Fuhr. Later in the meeting a separate motion, also moved by Gustison II and seconded by Julie Fisher, appointed Michelle Gustison as clerk; that motion passed unanimously as recorded in the minutes.
Committee members reported that artwork release for the 150th celebration has been secured and the event website Merrimac150.org is active. During discussion Chef Shears called attention to public-safety considerations for the planned town-wide photo and the committee recorded that a representative will meet with the police and fire chiefs to develop a safety plan. The Fishers will promote the town-wide photo and associated "duck drop" at the Light Department movie night on Sept. 19, 2025.
The minutes note that the Light Department and Santa Committee were not present and those agenda items were tabled to a future meeting. The committee also discussed grants and concluded that state-sponsored grants for broad celebration costs were not found; members observed that state funding typically requires a narrowly scoped request (for example, a commemorative bench).
The committee recorded next meeting information in the minutes as Sept. 10, 2025 at 6:00 PM at the Merrimac Police Department Conference Room. Several follow-up tasks were assigned to committee members (see action items).
