Mayor gives hiring update; fire chief outlines medical succession and AED placements

Mayor Mike Travaglini told the Board on June 24 that the City Administrator recruitment closed July 18, 2025, and city officials are identifying candidates for interview. He said a hiring committee of three aldermen and three residents (one from each ward) will screen applications.
Fire Chief Chris Amenn reported that automatic external defibrillators have been placed in City Hall and in police vehicles. "All auto defibrillators have been placed in City Hall and police vehicles," Amenn said, describing the equipment placement as a completed step to improve emergency response.
Amenn also discussed succession planning for the Chief Medical Director. He said Chief Medical Director Steven Gray is expected to retire in about a year and that Firefighter Tricia Dinella applied for and was offered a temporary assistant medical officer position to learn the role and eventually take over after Gray retires.
The board recorded the personnel updates but took no additional formal actions related to hiring timelines or the medical-director succession during the work session.
