Shrewsbury aldermen on May 27 approved a staff recommendation to repair a Public Works dump truck that an insurer had declared a total loss. Public Works Superintendent Chris Meine told the board the insurer would pay $10,000, but Meine said repair to Public Works standards would cost just over $17,000; Alderman Ben Stark moved and Alderman Grant Diel seconded a motion to approve the repair expenditure while accepting the $10,000 insurance payment to offset costs. The motion passed unanimously.
Fire Chief Amenn also reported delivery of a new Fire Department pick-up truck and asked the board to authorize listing the previous fire pickup and two Parks Department vehicles for public auction on GovDeals.com. Alderperson Bette Welch moved approval and Alderman Beth Parker seconded; the board approved the authorization unanimously.
Board members framed the actions as fleet-management measures to keep city operations running. The minutes record the amounts stated by staff ($10,000 insurance offer and repair estimate just over $17,000) but do not provide a vendor contract, a final authorized repair amount, or a timeline for completing the repair.
