Residents press board for pothole repairs, lighting, sinkhole inspection and one-way street petitions

During the meeting’s old- and new-business discussion, committee members and residents raised several neighborhood infrastructure and maintenance concerns and asked staff to follow up with DOT and other agencies.
A member said residents and merchants requested that a one-block stretch of Rolling Avenue be restored to two-way traffic; the board asked petitioners to supply letterhead or petitions from neighbors and businesses. A separate request from the Allerton area proposed making Hoover one-way southbound and Holland one-way northbound to ease narrow-street congestion; the committee again asked for written documentation from residents.
Members described widespread potholes on White Sands Road (from Bronx Park) and on White Plains Road, saying the damaged pavement had caused vehicle damage and was creating hazards for buses. One member asked why improved lighting at bus stops (comparing to nearby transit stations) had not been installed at problem locations on White Plains Road and Helen Parkway and urged DOT to prioritize lighting improvements to reduce safety risks.
For new business, a resident reported that a snow plow in January damaged a bridge expansion joint near Sackett Street and Williamsbridge Road; temporary steel plates remain and the resident asked when DOT would repair the joint. A recurring sinkhole between Mace and Waring on Barker Avenue was also reported; the resident said 311 had been contacted previously and staff asked for the exact address and photographs for follow-up.
Committee staff asked attendees to send written requests and precise locations to staff so the matters can be forwarded to DOT for inspection and repair. The committee did not take formal votes on any of these maintenance items at the March 9 meeting.
