TxDOT presents Category 2 project concepts; consultants outline MTP scoring and schedule

TxDOT presented proposed Category 2 project concepts for the Eagle Pass MPO area and the MPO's consultants provided an update on project scoring and the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) schedule.
Denise Garcia, TxDOT's new director of transportation planning and development, introduced herself and said proposed projects include illumination, sidewalks, pedestrian signals, dual-left operations and intersection safety improvements. She identified a priority area along FM 1021 (Veterans Boulevard to Memo Robinson) with recurring congestion and drainage problems.
"I'm the new director of transportation planning and development," Garcia said, and described the projects as preliminary ideas for the board to consider. Garcia invited board members to suggest additional projects for TxDOT to include in the scoring process.
Sid Martinez of Stanley Consultants said consultants will score projects using the board-approved metrics, aim to present a ranked list by April or May, plan another round of public involvement in late summer, and deliver a draft MTP in the fall.
Board members asked whether additional projects could be submitted; staff said additional submittals will be accepted while the scoring phase is underway.
