Union representative and laid‑off worker urge oversight and union protections during public comment

At the start of the March 11 board meeting, two public commenters addressed the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Ira Guyanen, speaking for the Culinary Union, submitted an administrative‑law judge’s order and asked that a Gaming Control Board representative attend National Labor Relations Board hearings involving Red Rock Resorts scheduled to conclude the week of March 24. Guyanen said the federal government rested its case last December and expressed confidence that the NLRB would rule in the union’s favor; he warned any judgment could create sizable financial liability for Red Rock.
Jennifer Hansen, a banquet server who said she works for Station Casinos and previously worked at Red Rock Casino Resort, recounted being laid off in May 2020 along with family members, described economic hardship and loss of housing, and urged the board to recognize the need for union contracts to protect seniority and job security for hospitality workers.
Chairman Dreiser thanked both speakers and noted the limits of public comment in terms of board action during the meeting; agents received the submitted materials for the record.
