The Jurupa Unified School District board on Feb. 17 approved the administration's application to the state to relocate the preschool currently housed at Rustic Lane Elementary to Granite Hill Elementary for the 2026–27 school year while Rustic Lane undergoes modernization.
Assistant Superintendent Daniel Brooks told the board that Granite Hill was determined to be the most viable temporary site after considering available space, community demand and the state's program requirements. "Administration recommends that the board approve that application so that it can be submitted to the state and we can begin to get things in place for staff, students, and families to prepare for next school year," Brooks said.
Trustees asked whether the relocation would be permanent; staff said the move would be temporary until Rustic Lane modernization is complete and that preschool classes have been relocated previously for facilities reasons. Families will continue to provide transportation to the relocated site, and the district said the school readiness center and other preschool sites across the district can help families find alternatives if Granite Hill is not convenient.
The board moved and approved the license application by voice vote; the motion passed 4–0 with one member absent. Staff said it will proceed to submit the application to the state and work with families on logistics.
The action applies only to the preschool class currently at Rustic Lane; Head Start and other early‑learning classes across the district will be managed separately.
