The Louisa County Board of Supervisors voted Aug. 6 to begin working with Red Lion Renewables on a solar project to serve five county facilities.
Terry Dvorak of Red Lion Renewables described the company’s proposed coverage for the systems and told the board Red Lion would cover wind, hail and liability. The minutes record that the county would need to cover fire damage unless the fire was caused by the solar system, in which case Red Lion’s insurance would apply.
Supervisor Shawn Maine moved to start working with Red Lion Renewables; Supervisor Chris Ball seconded the motion and the board approved the direction. The motion authorizes staff to enter initial discussions and begin vendor coordination; contract terms, insurance allocations and detailed project scope remain to be negotiated and returned to the board for formal action.
The board did not finalize a contract or specify project timelines at the Aug. 6 meeting. Next steps listed in the minutes include staff follow-up to clarify insurance language, draft agreement terms and return with quotes or contract drafts for board review.
