Staff member S3 updated the commission on road and bridge work and introduced a proposal from Terracon for geotechnical engineering on a new portion of Veterans Parkway to address apparent running problems. S3 said the proposal was for $20,000 and could be reduced if county crews provided traffic control during the three-day field work. "If we provide the traffic control, it'll be less than that," S3 said.
Separately, S3 asked the commission to pay $3,354 to Lauderdale County for engineering work performed on the county's behalf as part of a multi-jurisdictional bridge planning grant. S3 noted the planning grant has been approved and the construction grant application is due June 28; if the construction grant is approved, the county could proceed with a hydro-blasting project on the Wolf Creek Road South bridge. A motion and second were placed on the record and Chair called for the vote; the payment was approved by voice vote.
The commission also discussed creating a road department safety coordinator position (pay grade 20) that will require a budget amendment; staff will post the position after attorney and HR review.
