Louisa County abates tax interest for a tax-sale parcel and hears VA staffing request

At its July 9 session the Louisa County Board of Supervisors approved a motion (Maine, second Ball) to abate $1,223 in tax interest for parcel 03-17-128-000, a parcel purchased at tax sale by Rick Ball; the purchaser is paying $2,054 in back taxes.
The board received department reports. Adam Shutt provided a weekly update. VA Director Curt Hartlieb reported that Mark Spitznogle was hired to fill a vacancy on the VA commission and asked the auditor to place a swearing-in on next week's agenda; Hartlieb also requested an increase in his work hours from 20 to 25 per week.
Public Health Director Leah McElhinney delivered her monthly update. The board reviewed the Morning Sun Ambulance report for June 2024 and, on motion (Maine, second Ball), approved 4th quarter reports for the Auditor and Recorder. Payroll action noted that Susan Schnedler’s first deputy auditor position and a pay decrease were rescinded effective July 1, 2024.
There was no public input recorded. With no further business, the board adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
