The Louisa County Board of Supervisors discussed a proposal to expand the county's three-member board to five members during its July 9 meeting. Adam Parsons introduced the process for adding two supervisors; Supervisor Shawn Maine said he favored the idea to 'spread around' meeting attendance so responsibilities do not fall on the same members.
Parsons said the county would need additional review to determine whether the county could be divided into wards if the board expanded. Resident Bill Poggemiller told the board he was concerned about the cost of adding two more supervisors. Al Muhlenbruck urged the board to focus on growth and efficiency rather than concentrating on lowering costs.
Chairman Brad Quigley asked that staff research the legal and procedural steps necessary to change the board's composition and any implications for warding, and to bring findings back to the board. The board did not vote on a change to its membership at the meeting; Parsons said he would review options and report to the board at a future meeting.
The discussion was recorded as part of the regular session; board members agreed to place related procedural items on a future agenda for formal consideration.
