University Park swears in three trustees; new officials pledge accountability and public service

At an organizational meeting on May 6, 2025, the Village of University Park swore in newly (re)elected trustees and heard brief remarks from each official.
Karen L. Lewis took the oath of office and thanked supporters and family. "I took this oath, and we're gonna do what we wanna do to move this village forward," Lewis said, adding she intends to "do my duties right in the Village of University Park." The oath was administered as part of Item E-1b.
Sonya Jenkins (sworn in immediately afterward) thanked volunteers, community stakeholders and family and outlined priorities for her term, saying the victory "is a reflection of our voices and shared vision for a stronger and more unified University Park." Jenkins emphasized accountability, responsible spending and protections for programs that support diversity and inclusion.
Theophilus 'Theo' Brooks also was sworn in and recounted a recent health episode in which family and community support aided his recovery. Brooks thanked campaign staff and community leaders and responded to past campaign attacks, saying the village should not be 'for sale' and pledging to listen to residents and work collaboratively.
The swearing-in ceremonies were followed by a brief recess and the board resumed regular organizational items.
