Trumbull County proclaims March 15–21 as National Agriculture Week; Farm Bureau highlights safety and new farmer grant

The Trumbull County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt a resolution declaring March 15–21, 2026, National Agriculture Week in Trumbull County, Ohio. The proclamation, read into the record by the clerk, emphasizes agriculture’s economic and community role and calls on citizens to acknowledge the work of farm and ranch families.

Commissioners who spoke at the meeting highlighted the county’s agricultural mix and the importance of recognizing farmers year‑round. One commissioner noted "we have over 1,100 active farms in the county" and described a range of operations from small producers to larger farms and regional exporters. Another commissioner urged residents to thank farmers and recognized producers, beekeepers and small sustainable operations as important contributors to local markets.

Steve Kacierski of the Trumbull County Farm Bureau, speaking during the recognition, asked motorists to exercise caution: "Within the next month, the roads in Trumbull County are gonna get pretty busy in the more rural areas... just be aware and be respectful out there" when encountering slow‑moving farm equipment. His remarks focused on safety and respectful driving around farm vehicles.

Mandy Orahood, who identified herself as an organization director and said she works with farmers in Trumbull County, thanked the commissioners for supporting agriculture and announced that the Trumbull County Farm Bureau, through an anonymous sponsor, is offering a new farmer expansion grant. She described the grant as small but intended to help beginning farmers get started and asked that the county share information with interested individuals.

The board approved the proclamation by motion. After adoption, commissioners invited a photo opportunity to mark the recognition.

The proclamation and the public remarks took place as part of the regular meeting agenda and were followed by other routine business.
