Houston council approves ARPA-funded pump house, buys oil trailer and playground surfacing

The Houston City Council approved three operational purchases at its Aug. 19 meeting, including an American Rescue Plan Act-funded replacement pump house for the municipal golf course.
Parks and Recreation Supervisor Robbie Mortensen told the council the golf-course pump is inoperable and recommended building a new pump house about 100 feet from the current location. Mortensen presented a $12,000 bid from Mahan Drilling and Pump Service of Houston for a new pump and motor and said most of the construction would be completed by city crews. On a motion by Alderman Tim Ceplina and second by Alderman Fred Stottlemyre, the council approved using ARPA funds for the purchase and construction, not to exceed $35,000.
City Administrator Lloyd Wells presented a bid from CMW Equipment for an oil trailer to support chip sealing, patching and resurfacing. The council approved purchase of a Mauldin Model MT-300-01 trailer from CMW Equipment for $23,070 on a motion by Ceplina and second by Alderwoman Sheila Walker.
The council also approved purchase of rubber nuggets for playground surfacing at city parks for $12,993.53; that motion was made by Alderman Stottlemyre and seconded by Alderman Ceplina.
