Council members discussed several infrastructure and code-enforcement items. The fire hydrant by Sonic on S. Sam Houston Blvd was reported inoperable; Mayor Narancich proposed locating a new hydrant nearer the Cozumel Restaurant to improve coverage for the Sonic location, a suggestion Fire Chief Robbie Smith said he agreed with. Separately, Alderman Sam Kelley voiced concern about the condition of the Cozumel parking lot and directed City Attorney Sean Smith to review applicable ordinances and report back.
The council scheduled a special executive meeting for Aug. 13, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss a potential tax/bond to help cover quadplex costs. At 8:12 p.m. the council voted to close the regular session and move to executive session pursuant to Section 610.021 subsection (3); the minutes record the meeting later adjourned at 9:06 p.m.
