Grand Mound council approves consent agenda, splash-pad fence and several purchases

At its March 12 meeting, the Grand Mound City Council approved the consent agenda, set a public hearing on the proposed tax levy, approved a splash-pad fence design, hired pest control for city buildings and authorized purchase of a gate valve exerciser; the council also rescheduled its April meeting.
Mayor Kurt Crosthwaite called the Grand Mound City Council to order at 6:00 p.m. on March 12. The council approved the consent agenda, heard one public comment on sidewalk repairs, approved several routine purchases and adjourned at 6:32 p.m.
The consent agenda — which included the minutes of the Feb. 12 meeting, the city clerk’s financial report, bills and payroll — was approved on a motion by Council member Schanze, seconded by Council member Beitelspacher, with all members voting in favor. The clerk’s report listed February gross wages of $10,471.58 and showed Capital Improvement expenses of $55,291.49 for the month; other line-item revenues and expenses were recorded in the meeting packet.
During the public forum, resident Craig Kohl asked whether the city would sponsor a contractor for sidewalk repairs. Council members said homeowners are responsible for coordinating sidewalk repairs and the city would not sponsor a contractor.
The council discussed an Evergreen Cemetery survey and declined to proceed with it at this time (no motion to adopt the survey was recorded). Council member Beuthien moved, and Council member Beitelspacher seconded, to change the April regular meeting date to April 8; the motion passed on an all-aye vote.
Council member Green moved, and Council member Schanze seconded, to set a public hearing for the proposed tax levy; the motion carried unanimously. The council also approved the splash pad fence design on a motion by Council member Beitelspacher, seconded by Council member Schanze.
On the facilities side, Council member Beuthien moved, and Council member Banowetz seconded, to hire Meyer Pest Control for pest control at City Hall and the Depot; that motion passed on a unanimous vote. The council authorized public works to purchase a gate valve exerciser on a motion by Beuthien, seconded by Schanze; that motion also passed with all ayes.
At 6:32 p.m., Council member Beitelspacher moved to adjourn; Council member Beuthien seconded and the meeting was adjourned. The meeting record is attested by City Clerk Meghan Ganzer.
