Mayor opened the Sept. 29 meeting of the Village of Larchmont Board of Trustees and the board moved to appoint and swear in Deliana Ortiz as a police officer for the Larchmont Police Department. Police Chief (name not provided) introduced Ortiz and the board approved the appointment; Ortiz repeated the oath of office, saying, “I, Deliana Ortiz, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New York and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of police officer of the Village of Larchmont according to the best of my ability.”
The police chief reported a serious incident on Sept. 15 in Willow Park in which a 16‑year‑old Larchmont resident allegedly pistol‑whipped another 16‑year‑old, causing a broken nose and a concussion. Officers arrested the juvenile after he fled from police and charged him with assault in the second degree; detectives later recovered an air‑soft gun nearby that matched the weapon description. “So that’s one of the more serious incidents we’ve had in a long time,” the chief said.
The chief also described a Sept. 17 arrest of a 21‑year‑old Bronx resident who was caught attempting to steal a bicycle at Lot 3; that individual was charged in connection with the attempted theft and with a prior larceny. The chief framed both arrests as outcomes of routine patrol and investigative work and said the department has been coordinating with the local school to keep involved juveniles separated.
On operations, the department reported 11 leaf‑blower complaints since July; officers issued summonses in three cases observed directly and in two additional complaints. The chief said the department’s New York State accreditation assessment dates are scheduled for Jan. 20–22, 2026, and announced the AAA Northeast Bronze Award for traffic safety. Upcoming community outreach includes a bicycle safety program Oct. 3 at Chatsworth Avenue School, Halloween safety talks the week of Oct. 27, and a Coffee with a Cop event Oct. 1 at Stan’s Cafe.
The appointment was approved by the board during the meeting; the chief and the department highlighted both enforcement actions and education programs as part of ongoing public‑safety work.
