At a special meeting, Dr. Munshi told Gilroy Unified School District trustees that the board approved the appointment of Lisa Martin as principal of Mount Madonna Continuation High School. The approval occurred during a closed session earlier in the meeting, Dr. Munshi said, and all five trustees present voted in favor.
Dr. Munshi summarized Martin’s background for the board, saying she spent seven years as a parent and school leader with Morgan Hill Unified School District and previously worked with youth involved in the justice system in Santa Clara County beginning in 2002. According to Dr. Munshi, Martin moved into high-school counseling and assistant principal roles in 2003, earned a master of arts in school counseling from San Jose State University in 2003, and completed a leadership credential through National University in 2008.
Dr. Munshi said Martin most recently led alternative programs for Morgan Hill Unified, serving students outside the traditional school setting. He added that Martin is a San Martin resident, is married to a corporate pilot, and has five children; their oldest recently graduated from San Diego State University and another is a third-year student at California State University, Fullerton. “Welcome to our Gilroy Unified family,” Dr. Munshi said.
The board’s announcement concluded the special meeting, which the presiding officer then adjourned. The appointment was announced as approved in closed session; the motion text, mover and seconder, and any formal open-session vote were not specified in the meeting record.
