Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, introduced during a House Republican briefing, outlined the Deporting Fraudsters Act and said the bill would make noncitizens who defraud federal benefit programs inadmissible and removable under federal law.
"This legislation ensures that illegal aliens who defraud the United States government or unlawfully receive taxpayer-funded benefits are inadmissible and deportable under federal law," Tenney said, calling the measure an effort to "restore fairness" and "protect taxpayer dollars." She cited reporting by an independent journalist, Nick Shirley, and described alleged abuse in Medicare, SNAP and Social Security as evidence of systemic fraud.
Tenney said previous reauthorization and oversight gaps have allowed "bad actors to exploit public programs without facing appropriate consequences" and urged colleagues to support the bill to prevent what she described as large-scale exploitation of programs intended for vulnerable Americans. She did not provide statutory citations or specific case files during her remarks.
The briefing did not include testimony from administration or agency officials to confirm the instances Tenney cited. Tenney yielded the floor after outlining the bill and said she looked forward to working with colleagues to advance it.
