Resident urges earlier language instruction and stronger security; board outlines recent steps

At public comment, Bill Monzadellos (who identified himself as a parent and district graduate) urged the district to extend dual-language exposure beyond preschool, asked whether private tutoring or outside instruction is tracked, suggested earlier math-team opportunities at the elementary level, and raised concerns about campus security following recent incidents.

"Is there any way to continue that through the elementary schools and maybe even offer, like, an AP language class towards 7th grade?" Monzadellos asked, describing his experience with preschool dual-language classes in the district.

District leaders responded that the district does not track private tutors or outside instruction and that expanding language instruction district-wide would be a programmatic, staffing and budget decision. On security, Dr. Samson said the district added multiple security guards in the current budget cycle, implemented swipe access on doors and budgeted an app-based emergency alert system. He said the decision to place sworn school-resource officers is a community and municipal discussion and that the district currently relies on designated youth officers who work directly with schools.

Monzadellos also asked practical security questions such as whether deliveries could be left at an exterior desk to avoid security staff leaving posts; Dr. Samson said the district would consider practical, low-complexity changes and reiterated staff would follow up on specific requests.
