Antioch Unified trustees hold closed session on superintendent employment, give direction

The Antioch Unified Board of Trustees met on a session called to order at 4:03 p.m. and entered a closed session on item 2(a) regarding public employment for the district superintendent.

President Hernandez announced the closed session item, saying the board would meet about "public employment, superintendent," before recessing to closed session. The meeting later returned to open session at 9:55 p.m., and President Hernandez reported, "There are none. We received information and gave direction."

The report back was brief; no formal personnel action, vote or appointment was disclosed at the open meeting. "We received information and gave direction," President Hernandez said when asked to report any closed-session action. That statement was offered as the board's public description of what occurred during the closed portion of the meeting.

On the open agenda, the board reviewed item 4(a), an information and discussion item described by the president as superintendent search services and goal development consultation services. President Hernandez said the item was offered "in case there was anything else we needed, to discuss publicly as part of this process, but there's no further discussion." No contract award, motion or vote on search services was recorded in the transcript.

Vice President Rocha led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance during the reconvened session. The board also confirmed future meetings on April 16 and May 7.

A motion to adjourn was moved and seconded; the board approved the motion by voice vote after members responded "Aye." The chair declared the motion passed and the meeting adjourned.
