Commission hears Alta Vista pickleball rollout, safety recommendations and scheduling plan

The Alta Vista pickleball subcommittee reported that construction of four pickleball courts is complete and that staff, volunteers and neighboring ambassadors coordinated to set drop-in and reservation schedules.
The subcommittee said drop-in play is scheduled Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and evenings are available on Tuesday and Thursday; other times are available by reservation. Committee members reported strong online interest for the courts and suggested modest safety and user-experience adjustments: paint the small step edges to improve visibility; move benches so both are on the same side near the entrance; extend chain-link fencing to separate adjacent tennis play; and install a multi-slot paddle saddle to manage player rotation.
On the question of dedicating courts by skill level, the subcommittee and other commissioners said four courts make dedicated "challenge" courts impractical; the recommendation was to leave the courts open for drop-in play and allow reservations for higher-level play where feasible. A ribbon cutting was scheduled for March 18 and the subcommittee said it will monitor usage and report back if future changes are needed.
