Jack, a community volunteer and attendee, described components planned for the celebration, including a stilt walker, face painting, police and fire participation, a popcorn truck and coordination with BusyBeans for children's activities. Commissioners discussed reusing elements from last year's planning and saving supplies where possible.
Commissioner (voice 3) moved to approve the subcommittee; the motion was seconded and the body voted unanimously to form the group. Later in the meeting the commission approved a not-to-exceed $3,000 amount for event expenses; the motion was moved by Committee member (voice 7) and seconded by Committee member (voice 5).
Chair Morocco thanked the volunteers and staff and noted a follow-up to receive and file the subcommittee's report. Commissioners asked whether the Morel House would be part of the site and received a reply that the house remains closed for maintenance and will not be used at this time.
The subcommittee will coordinate flyer production and event promotion, and staff said the cultural-arts page and the city channel will be used to advertise the event.
