Bel-Nor board approves one-year boiler-service contract with Murphy

The Bel-Nor Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Feb. 16 to adopt an ordinance authorizing a one-year boiler-maintenance contract with Murphy. Mayor Anna Vogel read the second reading of the ordinance and the board approved the contract by roll-call vote (Aldermen Brockschmitt, Capstick, Days and Durand voted AYE). Bill No. 1211 (Ord. No. 1177) was approved.

Mayor Anna Vogel said the contract covers seasonal service work and annual backflow inspection and described limits on warranty work. Alderman Mike Capstick told residents the annual contract cost is $3,106.25. Residents asked whether routine maintenance is included; Vogel responded that nonroutine repairs such as radiator or pipe repairs would cost extra. "If we have an after-hour service call, we don't get after-hour billing," Mayor Vogel said when describing how Murphy will handle service calls and prior visits.

Board members discussed backdating the contract to the signed date and whether Murphy would credit fees for previously completed visits; Alderman Terri Durand said Murphy had already made two service visits and could apply credits accordingly. The written schedule of services presented at the meeting lists technical checks, inspections for boiler leaks and heat-exchanger issues, burner-assembly inspection, minor combustion tuning and the annual backflow test.

The ordinance vote concluded the item; the board moved on to a first reading of a separate ordinance later in the meeting. No amendments to the Murphy contract were recorded in the meeting minutes.
