Vivine Garza announces America 250 exhibits and "Washington's Super Secret Scavenger Hunt" at Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society

Vivine Garza, assistant librarian for Cabarrus County, announced a yearlong America 250 historical event at the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society that will feature county, state and national displays and a family scavenger hunt.

Garza said the county displays include material about the Cabarrus Black Boys, a local Revolutionary-era episode. She said the group "blew up 3 wagons full of gunpowder that were on their way to Governor Tryon," and that maps on display trace where the wagons were intercepted. Garza noted the wagons were identified as belonging to Colonel Moses Alexander and said Governor Tryon "put out basically, a hit on all of the boys that were involved, 9 regular patriots." These historical details were presented by Garza as part of the exhibit description.

Garza described the interactive portion of the event: "As part of the America 2 50 celebration, we'll have a scavenger hunt that we're calling Washington's Super Secret Scavenger Hunt." She instructed visitors to "pick up your scavenger hunt over at Harrisburg Library," complete it, bring it to the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society and then pick up a prize at Harrisburg Library. Garza closed the announcement saying, "Happy hunting."

The displays and scavenger hunt are presented as local programming tied to the national America 250 commemoration. Garza encouraged residents to view the maps and displays to learn more about the county's Revolutionary-era history and to participate in the scavenger hunt; she did not specify dates, hours or prize details in the announcement.
