Dr. Jennifer Jurado, Broward County’s chief resiliency officer, said the program prioritizes discrete capital conveyance projects — gates, weirs, pump improvements, culvert upgrades and storage — that were modeled for flood risk reduction. The county’s modeling identified roughly $1 billion in conveyance projects and another $2 billion in pump infrastructure needs; the $20 million reserve is meant to seed cost share and be leveraged with other funding. Jurado said the county will offer up to 25% cost‑share on selected projects, preferencing projects in the plan but leaving room for other compatible projects; eligible costs will include design, permitting, construction and telemetry to measure outcomes.
County staff told commissioners the application portal is expected to open in September, with applications accepted through October and staff recommendations available later in the year. Staff encouraged Hollywood to work with county staff to identify eligible stormwater conveyance priorities that could be advanced under the grant timeline.
