County staff reports progress on detention-center repairs and EMS hiring

John Robinson, Assistant County Administrator for Public Safety, updated the committee on facility repairs and staffing matters at the county detention center and EMS.
Robinson said the detention-center exterior stucco work and rec-yard fencing were completed and that upcoming work will include front-lobby restoration, repainting of an adjacent courtroom, new ceilings and window work, and renovations to locker rooms and the muster room. He said the county received design approval for a gym conversion into minimum-security housing and expects to make an offer for a detention-center director by the end of the week.
Robinson also reported that several new EMS employees completed orientation and that staff are evaluating options to expand EMS base capacity into an adjacent warehouse; any capital work would be proposed in the FY28 capital-improvements budget, not this fiscal year.
Committee members asked for ballpark project costs and timing; Robinson said emergency plumbing contracts last year totaled about $600,000 but that he did not have comprehensive estimates for the planned projects and that capital projects will be packaged with design and cost estimates for future CIP consideration.
What’s next: Staff will prepare project cost estimates and include any required items in FY28 capital-improvement requests.
