Pottawattamie County board approves pay-grade, step changes; ratifies Teamsters wage reopener and extends sheriff deputy contract

The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors approved several payroll and labor actions during a July 2 special session called to order by Chairman Brian Shea.
Jones moved — seconded by Jorgensen — to eliminate pay grade 511 and direct payroll staff to move employees in grades 512 and 514 to the next step; the board recorded a unanimous vote in favor. The motion implements a structural change to the county pay schedule for the affected positions.
In a separate unanimous motion, Wichman moved — seconded by Jones — to adjust the two highest steps in every pay grade so those steps equal a 3% salary increase. The board instructed payroll to implement that step adjustment across grades.
The board then considered a labor agreement covering represented employees. “Motion by Miller, second by Jones, to approve and authorize the Board Chairman to sign Teamsters Local Union #554 Wage Reopener Agreement, effective July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027,” the minutes record. The measure passed with AYES: Shea, Miller, Jones and NAYS: Wichman, Jorgensen. The board thereby ratified a one-year wage reopener agreement with Teamsters Local Union #554.
For a separate labor matter, Jorgensen moved — seconded by Miller — to approve and authorize the chairman to sign an agreement extending the sheriff deputy contract for one month while arbitration proceeds; the vote was unanimous. The short extension preserves current contract terms while the parties pursue arbitration.
All motions described above were recorded in the minutes as carried. The board did not attach additional funding amounts to the agenda motions in the meeting record; implementation will be handled by county payroll and relevant departments.
