Newton Public Library lays out summer events; children's programming drew 14,612 visits last year

Phyllis, the library’s public services librarian, presented the library’s summer schedule and year-round programs. She said most programming is funded through donations and in-house fundraising and highlighted partnerships with local organizations and the school district for snack distribution through the USDA Summer Food Program.
Phyllis cited several participation figures: 14,612 children's program attendances last year; 733 children and 75 teens participated in summer reading; and 428 children are currently enrolled in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative with 140 completions. She also described successful library features such as a memory lab, STEM kits (45 kits), a board-game collection, and outreach to preschools and daycares.
Councilmembers praised the library’s work and volunteers. Phyllis said some events now use ticketing to control crowd size and noted a Carnegie grant of $10,000 recently awarded to the library.
