Iowa Speedway officials tell Newton council Cup races drove more than $150 million in local impact

Eric Peterson, president of Iowa Speedway, told the Newton City Council that the Speedway’s NASCAR Cup Series races in 2024 and 2025 generated more than $150 million in economic impact to the state and Newton.
"As you can see, over $150,000,000 economic impact, bringing in the NASCAR Cup Series," Peterson said, and added that the track anticipates another sellout for the upcoming Cup race scheduled for Aug. 7–9, 2026. He described sustained growth in television and online viewership and said the Speedway now hosts about 160 events per year, from training programs to private rentals.
Peterson also promoted an Iowa Speedway open house planned for April 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., open and free to the public, and encouraged city residents to attend. Council members thanked Peterson and praised the Speedway’s community partnerships, including charitable programs and youth donations.
The Speedway presentation emphasized ongoing community engagement, volunteer support during race weekends and economic benefits tied to marquee events.
