Rolla Council approves lighting, pavilion and asphalt contracts; Wilson Field work backed by state grant

Rolla City Council approved a series of contracts and project awards during its June 16 meeting, authorizing work on street and recreational lighting, park pavilions and city streets.
The Council adopted Ordinance 4863 by roll call to authorize an agreement with Meyer Electric Company, Inc., for Project 517 (Pine Street lighting). Parks Director Floyd Jernigan described plans to install energy-efficient LED fixtures at Wilson Field; that project will be funded in part through a 50/50 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant and the Council awarded the Wilson Field contract to Meyer Electric for $289,324.
To replace tornado-damaged fixtures, the Council awarded the Kwantes Field lighting project to Qualite Sports Lighting Inc. for $186,437. The Council also approved estimates from Backyard Showcase for design plans and materials (excluding metal roofing) to replace two pavilions at Veterans Memorial Park demolished by the March tornado; the pavilion designs include elevated wind tolerance up to 125 mph. Council awarded Project 601, FY2025 Asphalt Phase III, to Pierce Asphalt, LLC for $194,495.50.
All park and project awards recorded on the June 16 minutes passed by voice votes recorded as 11 Ayes, 0 Nays, 1 Absent (Mattias Penner). Several of the park projects cited recovery from March storm damage. Contracts and ordinances will proceed to any required final readings and execution by the mayor as appropriate.
