Rolla City Council convened an emergency workshop on March 19, 2025, at City Hall to receive updates from department directors on the city’s response to a recent tornado. Mayor Louis J. Magdits IV presided; council members and department heads attended.
Department directors reported on operations from the first 72 hours after the tornado through ongoing cleanup and recovery. Officials said crews have been addressing debris removal, assessment of infrastructure damage and continuity of essential services. The update was delivered collectively by heads from Rolla Municipal Utilities, Public Works, Community Development, Environmental Services, Parks, Fire and Police.
Council was briefed on public resources available to affected residents: showers, food and clothing distribution, debris and trash disposal, chainsaw teams to clear fallen trees, and counseling services. City staff urged residents to share these resources with neighbors and constituents.
Officials emphasized volunteer coordination and tracking. Staff explained that the volunteer-tracking process not only helps ensure safety and efficient use of volunteers and in-kind resources, but that documented volunteer labor counts toward the City’s 25% match to FEMA’s 75% cost share for disaster reimbursements. The council was also updated on related fiscal and administrative matters, including insurance claims on city property, FEMA overtime reimbursement procedures, and payments for Mutual Aid assistance.
No formal motions or votes were taken during the workshop. With no further questions, Mayor Magdits adjourned the meeting at 7:37 p.m.
The city’s posted minutes list contact points for resources and volunteer registration; residents seeking assistance or wishing to volunteer should consult the Rolla City website or contact the listed department offices for the most current information.
